Dead Violets

The concert with Dead Violets is cancelled.

A noise behemoth, a drone core juggernaut, an ominous transatlantic storm cloud, a black as bile three headed beast. Dead Violets is Jeffrey Surak (Violet, Critikal, etc), Bethany Moore and Thomas Ekelund (Dead Letters Spell Out Dead Words, Teeth, etc).

They say opposites attract. In the case of Dead Violets the opposite is even truer. After years of virtual fraternization Thomas Ekelund (Sweden) and Jeff Surak (USA) realized that it was only logical to join forces and meld their common interests in drones, surface noise, and 60s girl group pop, therefore Dead Letters Spell Out Dead Words plus Violet gave birth to Dead Violets.

Drones, noise, and 60s girl group pop

After producing several online and cassette tape appearances with their trademark intense low frequency dirges and bleak harmonic flourishes, Dead Violets is reemerging once again with the recent addition of poetess/priestess Bethany Moore on vocals and incantations. As a trio the group goes even further into uncharted audio realms within their collective souls producing a hybrid of drone pop exorcisms and sound art rituals.

Sewers, netherworld and witchcraft

Thomas Ekelund is a graphic designer, musician and visual artist. Mr Ekelund's work can be described as bleak to bleaker, grimy sounds emanate from the sewer, while rays of hope sneak through the broken glass, reflecting on the blood stained shards on the street above. He has released music under a long line of guises both solo and in constellations such as The Skull Defekts, Normal Music, Teeth and Dub Industrial Sound System.

Bethany Moore, also known as 'B' or 'Aradia', has been writing poetry, stories, and songs since early childhood. A practicing wiccan for many years, B uses her voice and words to convey her observations and experiences. Much of her work explores issues of human despair, spiritual journeying, and emotional analysis.

Jeffrey Surak (aka (Violet) is a veteran experimenter from Washington, DC. Since the early 1980s, he has explored the netherworld between improvisation and composition to create something between the two auditory realms of experimental music. His various projects have included -1348-, New Carrollton, V., Critical and numerous collaborations. Surak runs the Zeromoon imprint also produces the annual Sonic Circuits Festival of Experimental Music in Washington DC.
