The history of Mimer

The power station was originally hosting a steam engine used for operating the mining processes in the area. The engine was fed coal transported on the "Gamla Banan", one of he first railways in Sweden. The last ten years the building has been the main stage of the Norberg festival and the house will most likely be refurbished soon, so we can continue to use it for making all that lovable noise.

The Mimer was a pithead frame for the extraction of iron ore. The structure was erected in 1957 and it took only about three weeks to finish the main construction. Three years later they started the production. Hematite and magnetite from the pits around the area were brought into Mimer in batches of 7 tons each, crushed and then further processed.

During the 1980:s there were no more money in the ore business and Mimer was abandoned. A January winter day 1999 another kind of miner entered the concrete chambers. He was a s Sony 2x60w boom box and the first record played was "Les Nuits" by Nightmares On Wax. The rest is history, modern music history!
